Four Scams to Watch Out for in 2021

What are the biggests scams of 2021? Here are four scams to watch out for this year.

According to the FTC, in 2019 the average loss of money per scam phone call was $1,000 for those who did not quickly hang up. Scammers are sneaky and good at tricking you out of your money. Here are a few scams to be on the lookout for this year:

  1. Fake Debt Collectors will call you pretending to collect on outstanding debt you may have. They will use scare tactics to trick you into giving them payment.

  2. “A Package Waiting” email/text pops up on your phone wanting you to click a link to “learn more” about your delayed package. Once you click that link you will be sent to a page requesting your personal information instead.

  3. Fake Utility Bill collectors will call you saying that you’ve overpaid on your utility bill. They will request for you to take action which will not only result in loss of personal information but also loss of money.

  4. An Imposter pretending to be someone you know will ask for you to send them money.

Keep in mind that there are many more scams out there. Take note this year and make sure to be extra careful that the scammers won’t get anything from you! Remember, never give out your personal information without verifying the legitimacy of the caller.
