How do I sign up for Internet service?
Signing up for SkyBest Internet is easy. Just contact your local SkyLine/SkyBest Customer Service Center by dialing one of the following telephone numbers:

What do I need to gain access to the Internet?
To connect to the Internet through SkyLine or SkyBest's local access, you will need one of the following types of computers and modems:
- IBM-compatible personal computer (PC) running Windows 95 or higher with at least a 133 MHz Pentium processor, a minimum of 32 MB of RAM memory and a minimum of 8 MB of video memory; or
- Macintosh personal computer running System 8.0 or higher with at least a 68030 processor, a minimum of 32 MB or RAM memory and a minimum of 8 MB of video memory.
- V.90 Compatible internal modem
You will also need access to a working telephone line which your modem can be connected to and an account with SkyBest Communications.
What does SkyBest offer with its services?
This service is available to residents of Alleghany, Ashe, Avery and Watauga counties, and offers the following features:
- No long-distance charges. Be sure to set up your computer to dial the LOCAL access number. Should you have questions as to what your local access number would be, please call SkyLine/SkyBest and speak with a customer service representative.
- Dial-up modem connections up to 56 Kbps (Kilobits per second). The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) limits maximum available speed to 53 Kbps; however, this is NOT a guaranteed connection speed.
- SkyLine/SkyBest customers will be billed for this service on their monthly telephone bill.
- Technical assistance is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week (This is not instructional assistance, but rather free technical assistance with configuring Internet software, troubleshooting connection problems and troubleshooting e-mail difficulties).
- Personal web page (up to 10 MB in size). Access the End User Control Panel for details.
- 8 total e-mail accounts (at no charge).
*This service is not currently available to SkyLine's Johnson County customers.
What does SkyBest charge for Internet access?
SkyBest currently offers dial-up Internet access for $19.95 per month. This includes:
- Unlimited monthly usage.
- One User ID - no multiple log-on activity allowed.
- Service times out after 30 minutes of inactivity.
- Local dial-up numbers (Please remember that you are responsible for determining which dial-up numbers are considered local for your calling areas. SkyBest Communications, Inc. nor SkyLine Telephone will be responsible for any long-distance charges that you may incur while using our service. If you need clarification on what is considered your local calling area, please contact your local Customer Service Center).
- This plan is only available on a dial-up modem basis.
Additional Information
Software-controlled and chipless modems are not recommended. You may not be able to connect to the Internet with these modems.
